When conceptualizing PRE-KAGED Sport, we did not set out to reinvent the wheel of pre-workouts in this industry. Instead, we set out to optimize this wheel. We wanted to make an economically friendly product that would grant pre-workout access for a new breed of individuals. This breed, of course, are the athletes of this world.
Nonetheless, we wanted more than this. We saw too many brands creating their lower-cost versions of pre-workouts and stuffing it with, for lack of a better word, crap. PRE-KAGED Sport not only is an attractive product to athletes but to those looking for a cost-effective, foundational pre-workout consisting of high-quality, pure ingredients.
Ingredient Introduction
PRE-KAGED Sport features trademarked ingredients like CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine, BetaPower Betaine Anhydrous, PurCaf Organic Caffeine, and AquaMin Magnesium. In the case of beta-alanine and caffeine, these two ingredients are so well regarded for athletes, they made the International Olympic Committee’s select list of supplements shown to enhance performance.[S1]
PRE-KAGED Sport also features other ingredients shown to support endurance, hydration, and focus like Taurine, Citrulline, Sodium, and Tyrosine. The formula for PRE-KAGED Sport was meticulously researched to cover the key performance attributes modern athletes need to dominate their sports. And the caffeine content used was specifically calibrated so that athletes can get the performance-boosting benefits without the negative effects. This is especially important for collegiate athletes who undergo drug testing where excessively high caffeine doses resulting in urinary concentrations of 15 ug/ml are prohibited.[S2]
PRE-KAGED Sport is Informed-Sport certified meaning that it’s tested to be free of banned substances. PRE-KAGED Sport underwent rigorous testing to ensure it’s safe and free of any substances prohibited by the major sports governing bodies like the NCAA, IOC, and WADA.
Unlike sports drinks that are loaded with sugars, artificial colors, and flavors, PRE-KAGED Sport only uses natural flavors and colors.
Ingredient Breakdown
Citrulline
Citrulline is an amino acid that supports performance and recovery. Citrulline acts through multiple pathways including increasing plasma arginine and nitric oxide levels, which support increased blood flow. Citrulline also plays a role in ammonia buffering through the urea cycle, which may reduce fatigue. It’s through these mechanisms that citrulline has shown an ability to support increased performance. A meta-analysis of 12 studies showed that citrulline significantly improved high-intensity strength and power performance.[IG1]. This makes citrulline ideal for athletes participating in sports that require multiple bursts of explosive movement. Kaged uses fermented pure L-Citrulline, so you get your money’s worth. Most companies use Citrulline-Malate which is mixed in a 1:1 ratio (Citrulline + Malic Acid), giving you half the dose per gram of what you’d get from pure L-Citrulline.
CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine
Beta-alanine is an amino acid that combines with the amino acid histidine to form the dipeptide carnosine. Carnosine supports better overall muscle function by buffering hydrogen ions when the body’s pH becomes low, which is a byproduct of intense exercise. Research has shown that the body produces ample amounts of histidine and beta-alanine is the rate-limiting factor for the synthesis of carnosine. Beta-alanine supplementation has been shown to improve exercise performance lasting 60-240 seconds when a median total of 179 g is consumed over the course of several weeks.[ING2]. Athletes that train in the anaerobic zone will get the most benefit from using beta-alanine.
BetaPower Betaine Anhydrous
This is a compound consisting of glycine and three methyl compounds. It’s been researched for it’s potential to enhance performance and body composition. Scientists suspect betaine can increase performance through at least 3 mechanisms which include betaine’s role in increasing creatine synthesis, betaine’s role as an osmolyte protecting cellular hydration against stress, and betaine’s ability to increase nitric oxide. In studies, betaine has increased upper and lower bodywork capacity in strength training exercises and power output in sprints. [ING 3,4,5] BetaPower is ideal for athletes looking to increase their work capacity so they can get the most out of every practice.
Taurine
Taurine is an organic compound found in high concentrations in cardiac and skeletal muscle. It’s involved in various physiological processes including facilitating calcium release which impacts muscle contractions, contributing to the antioxidant systems stress response, and influencing substrate utilization. Because of taurine’s different functions, scientists have researched it for potential performance-enhancing effects. A meta-analysis of studies on taurine supplementation demonstrated that taurine supplementation increased overall endurance performance.[ING6] This makes taurine ideal for any athlete serious about fighting fatigue, to avoid gassing out.
Tyrosine
Tyrosine is a large neutral amino acid, these types of amino acids compete for transport across the blood-brain barrier. Tyrosine is a precursor for catecholamines, these are neurotransmitter hormones that have profound effects on our mood. These catecholamines include epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine which are associated with our “fight or flight” response and motivation. Because of this, tyrosine supplementation has been researched for its effects under stressful situations. A review of literature on tyrosine supplementation has shown that it’s supplementation can enhance the cognitive performance of healthy individuals under stress.[ ING7] Tyrosine supplementation may be useful for athletes that need to make clutch decisions during crunch time of a big game
PurCaf Caffeine
This is derived from organic coffee beans through water extraction. PurCaf is non-GMO, self-affirmed GRAS, and organic. Caffeine has been researched for its effects to potentially offset central fatigue because it’s a known central nervous system stimulant. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system by blocking adenosine which can delay fatigue. A meta-analysis of 21 studies examining caffeine supplementation’s effects on sport-specific performance like running, rowing, and cycling showed caffeine to have beneficial effects on endurance.[ING8]
Coconut Water
Our coconut water powder is carefully manufactured and freeze-dried exclusively for Kaged®.
Vitamin B12
This is a water-soluble vitamin involved in several physiological processes. Vitamin B12 plays a role in red blood cell formation and in nerve signal transmission. [ING9]
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin involved in various bodily functions including the metabolism of amino acids and the formation of hemoglobin.[ING10]
Sodium
Sodium is a mineral required for physiologic functions like nerve signal conduction, muscle contraction, and fluid balance regulation.
AquaMin Magnesium
This is a natural highly bioavailable form of magnesium produced from seawater. Magnesium is involved in important functions including nerve signal conduction, muscle contraction, and muscle relaxation.
Usage
We recommend you use PRE-KAGED Sport 20-30 minutes prior to your athletic experience. Mix 1 scoop with 8-12 ounces of cold water. For those looking to lessen/intensify their experience, feel free to alter the scoop size used.
